"Both of my children took voice lessons from Vanessa. We were all impressed with Vanessa's educational credentials and also loved that she was a working artist and still studying and perfecting her craft. Vanessa was able to 'tell it how it was' out there in the real world of auditioning and working. She encouraged our children to compile an expansive repertoire of songs so they would be prepared for future auditions. Vanessa was able to accompany her students on the piano as she taught, which is always a plus. Future students would be in good hands with Vanessa."

Vanessa Parvin

Teacher
Ten years ago, Vanessa began giving voice lessons to fellow performers. In 2000, she expanded to include piano lessons and opened The June Studio in her Long Beach, CA home. Since then, more than fifty students have worked in the studio. Using their newly acquired skills and confidence, some students have gone on to be accepted as music majors at distinguished performing schools like Eastman School of Music and University of California at Irvine. Other students have chosen to make a career out of singing, finding work on cruise ships, with rock bands, and in musicals. Piano students have graduated from basic instructional books to solo pieces. Many have used the musicianship skills acquired in their piano studies to expand to other instruments like upright bass, percussion, and violin.

Student
  Piano:
Vanessa began her piano training at the age of ten, first with Candace Forest and then with renowned concert pianist Gale Sholiton. By eleven, she was singled out to accompany her middle school choir on piano. Vanessa has been involved in piano work for children’s programs as an accompanist and musical director ever since.

  Voice:
Some years later, she began her formal voice training, continuing on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Voice from UCLA. During her more than 15 years of private voice lessons, Vanessa has studied classical technique with some of California’s leading teachers, including Juliana Gondek, Rebecca Semrau, Marian Kasper, Sterling Branton, and Tim Moussard. She expanded into musical theatre technique with Calvin Remsberg (Phantom of the Opera LA Company), Dr. Gary Busby, and Dr. Bruce Kolb, with whom she currently studies in New York.

  Acting:
With the intent of marrying technical singing with the technique of acting, Vanessa returned to school in 2003 to complete a Master of Fine Arts degree in Acting at Brooklyn College. She studied voice for the actor with Judylee Vivier, Francine Zerfas, and Charlotte Fleck and Alexander Technique with Laura Smith. Before returning to school, Vanessa studied acting and musical theatre technique with Broadway legend Carole D’Andrea (original Broadway casts of West Side Story and Gypsy).
